SCHOOL REGISTER INFORMATION AND ATTENTION

Individual academic guide
Students themselves must handle their academic affairs and can consult their advisors or professors.
Students themselves need to check the KHUIS for academic records, class registration and information, class schedules, address changes, and so forth. When students find a peculiarity (changes in personal information such as name, id number, etc.), they must solve the issues with the graduate school.
Credit management
Students themselves shall manage their general course credits based on the university regulations, detailed enforcement regulations, or the department bylaws.
Thesis credits
Thesis credits include thesis research 1, thesis research 2, and thesis research 3 (open presentation). Though thesis credits do not count for the credits required for coursework completion, students must start taking thesis credits from their second semester and complete all of them in order to submit their theses.
Thesis research 3 (open presentation) is obtained by presenting their theses at the open presentation meeting of each department.
Open presentation of theses
Regarding the open presentation of theses, please note:
  • a. Students must have completed two thesis credits, and
  • b. Must submit the open presentation applications to the department.
  • c. The open presentation of theses is held during the period in the early semester specified by the department, and
  • d. Open presentation information (thesis title, schedule, place, etc.) must be published in the KHUGNEWS or the
        Daehak Jubo before the presentation.
  • e. Students who have passed the open presentation are given two credits by the advisors, and
  • f. Must submit the thesis advisement report form with the advisor’s and the Department Chair’s approval on it to the
        graduate school.
  • g. Degree thesis can be submitted in the semester when it is passed in the open presentation.
  • h. When an ABD student is registering two thesis credits, the student must get the notice of payment for thesis credits
        from the graduate school and pay it within the class registration period.
Thesis qualifying exams
Thesis qualifying exams include foreign language exams and qualifying exams.
Foreign language exams are held on the dates specified by the graduate school every semester. Qualifying exams are held on the dates specified by the department.
  • a. Foreign language exams
Students of the Master’s and Ph.D. degree programs take foreign language exams in English or Korean (for international students) after they have completed the first semester.
Major-field foreign language exams for Ph.D. degree program students are held by the bylaws of the department.
international students choose either English or Korean, except their mother tongue. //Alternative courses of foreign languages
Students of KHU Master’s and Ph.D. degree programs can be exempt from the foreign language exams, if they take the alternative language courses at the Institute of International Education in KHU for 16 weeks and pass the oral test and evaluation test.
Students can submit their thesis after the semester when they have completed the alternative language courses
Registration of the alternative courses: Students must submit the class registration applications (including one photo) and pay the tuition to the Institute of International Education within the class registration period.   • b. Qualifying exams
Qualifying exams are taken for three or more subjects specified by the department and involve written and oral tests.
Students can re-take the qualifying exams in the failed subjects until eligibility for thesis submission expires. Students must pass the qualifying exams in all subjects.
Research registration
ABD students of degree programs must renew research registration every semester. (Refer to the bylaw 8 of the graduate school and “registration” of the graduate school homepage.)
Management of grade
Students can check their grades in the KHUIS whenever they want.
Changes in school registers (leave of absence, reinstatement, etc.)
Please carefully consult the university regulation 3 and the detailed enforcement regulation 4, and prevent any problem in managing your registration. (Refer to “School register” on the graduate school homepage.)
Student ID applications (ID-debit card combined)
Fill out the applications in the graduate school and submit it to the graduate school or the KHU Onestop Service Center (1st floor in Cheong Un Gwan).
In case of loss, students themselves need to report the loss of the card to the bank and ask the Onestop Service Center to re-issue it. (Refer to “campus life” on the graduate school homepage.)
