LEAVE OF ABSENCE, REINSTATEMENT, QUIT/EXPULSION/REMOVAL

Documentary evidence is necessary for those who take a leave of absence due to conscription or overseas employment (transfer).
If a student takes a leave for military service in advance, he must submit a general leave of absence form and then submit a copy of the draft by 14 days before the day of enlistment to change the status of a general leave of absence to a military service leave of absence.
Male students who are affiliated with the university reserve army must get a confirmation seal from the regimental headquarters on the first floor of Cheong Un Gwan.
Application period for a leave of absence
  • a. Applications for a leave of absence must be submitted within a specified period before the beginning of the semester.
  • b. A leave of absence is allowed to the students who have registered. Yet, it is not so during the registration period.
  • c. Students who take a leave of absence by the late March in the first semester of the year or by the late September
in the second semester of the year are exempt from additionally paying the tuition upon reinstatement.
However, students who take a leave other than these periods must re-pay the tuition on reinstatement.
Attention
  • a. Each leave of absence cannot exceed one year (two semesters). If a student wants to take a leave of absence again
after taking a leave for a semester or a year without returning, the student must re-submit the leave of absence form.
  • b. The leave of absence period counts for the years of enrollment. Yet, leaves of absence due to military service and
long-term overseas employment or transfer do not count for the leave of absence period.
Reinstatement
Students can return during the registration period of the semester right after the end of the leave, upon the approval by the Dean of the Graduate School.
Procedures: Download of the reinstatement form (the graduate school hompage) the Department Chair’s confirmation seal submission of the reinstatement form (to the graduate school)

Application period for reinstatement
When the term of a leave of absence expires, the student can return upon the approval by the Dean of the Graduate School within the 30 days right before the beginning of the semester.
Quit/expulsion/removal
For those who want to quit, the voluntary withdrawal form must be approved by the Department Chair and submitted to the Dean of the Graduate School.
Students who want removal can be removed upon the approval by the President.
Upon the request by the Dean of the Graduate School, the President can expel the students who fall under these conditions:
  • a. Students do not return after the expiration of the leave of absence.
  • b. Students do not pay the tuition or other fees within the specified periods.
  • c. Students fail to complete the coursework within the specified year limit of enrollment.
  • d. For such reasons as disciplinary punishment, expulsion of the students is approved by the graduate school committee.
  • e. If a student of an integrated degrees program receives a Master’s degree, the President can expel the student upon the
request by the Dean of the Graduate School.
If there are seats available, re-entry can be allowed to those who have been expelled or removed but are expected to complete the coursework within the specified year limit of enrollment.
Re-entry applications are acceptable 30 days before the beginning of the semester. Yet, re-entry is not considered if the student was expelled and excluded from the re-entry candidates by a disciplinary penalty.
